Connecticut: Historic Wedding Sites?
Q. We'd love to introduce our wedding guests to some of Connecticut's rich history. Do you have any suggestions for historic sites that will host weddings?
A. Absolutely! Let's start with the Barns at Wesleyan Hills. Nestled within this residential community's manicured grounds are the property's original barns, restored to reflect the area's farmland beginnings. The Big Barn recalls its rustic days -- the wooden structure still includes the loft, once a storage spot for bales of hay, which overlooks the main floor. Keeping the farmhouse feel, rectangular tables, instead of round tables, offer an intimate, family-style dining experience, especially when topped with antique candelabra. In pleasant weather, have the cocktail hour in the adjacent courtyard, or a little farther off, stroll along willow-lined ponds.
editors note: The Barns at Wesleyan Hills features an English style Barn built in 1874, complete with wide chestnut floors. Maximum seating for about 250 and complete rental and catering information can be found by visiting www.pavilioncatering.com
